2nd OPEN INTERNATIONAL IN CALAIS
From 24 to 29 October 2026
ARTICLE 1 : Organization, Registration

The 2nd International Open of Calais is organized by the club Calais passion Echescs in partnership with the city of Calais, it takes place in the great salon of the Hôtel de Ville, Place du Soldat inconnu 62100 Calais, from October 24 to 29, 2026.

The Chairman of the Organising Committee is Mr. Pierre WARNAULT.

FIDE requests that any player participating in a FIDE-approved tournament has a FIDE identifier.

FIDE-rated players have such a number and are found in the FRL (FIDE Rating List).

If a foreign non-classified FIDE player does not have a FIDE identifier, he must contact his federation to assign him an FIDE identifier before the tournament!

The registration of a player who does not have this FIDE ID will be refused.

The 2nd Open International in Calais is approved by FIDE and the FFE, the compatible parts are taken into account for the ELO Fide ranking of December 2026.

The rules of the game are those adopted by the 93rd FIDE Congress held in Chennai (India) which came into force on 1 January 2023.

The closing of the registrations is set on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 15:00. No registration will be taken on site on the day of the tournament.

The registration fees of the Open are: 50 € (SEN – SEP – VET) and 25 € Young (U8 to U20) until October 18. An increase of 10€/5€ is applied for any registration from October 19.

Registration is considered upon receipt of the completed and signed bulletin, accompanied by the payment, This payment can be made by cheque attached to the bulletin or by bank transfer.

Registering for the tournament implies accepting all of these rules of procedure and respecting the “charter of the chess player” displayed in the room.
ARTICLE 2 : Right to image

The Organizing Committee shall make all the decisions it deems useful in the interest of the smooth running of the tournament. During the chess games but also the ancillary activities of the tournament, photos or videos may be taken, in accordance with Article 7 of Law No. 78-17 of 6 January 1978. The registration for the 2nd International Open of Calais implies the acceptance to appear on the Photos and Videos by the player or his legal representative.


ARTICLE 3: Conduct of the tournament

The 2nd International Open of Calais is contested in 9 rounds, it is open to any player and player regularly affiliated with the French Federation of Chess or another Federation, member of the FIDE

Cadence :

The cadence is 1h30 mn (+ 30s/cp from the first shot) for the whole part.

The rating of the shots is mandatory throughout the game.

Particular device for a zero part by mutual agreement:

The null and void by mutual agreement (Articles 9.1.1 and 9.1.2 of the Rules of the Game) may be proposed only from the 20th shot or with the agreement of the referee within 20 strokes.

Special device for packages :

Any player who arrives at the game room 30 minutes or more after the start of the round will lose the game, unless the referee decides otherwise.

If neither player is present after 30 minutes, the player with the whites will lose all the time elapsed until his arrival, unless the referee decides otherwise.


ARTICLE 4 : The Bye

Any player will be able to take a “BYE”, that is to say not to be matched during a round, but still scoring a half-point (0.5 point). He must absolutely notify the referee before the end of the previous round (or before the end of the score for a BYE in the first round). Each player is limited to a “BYE” in the tournament, only possible during rounds 1 to 6.

The “BYE” for the first round can only be granted if the registration fee has been settled before October 25 and the “BYE” request has been clearly indicated to the principal arbitrator.


ARTICLE 5 : Parking

Appearance to the Swiss accelerated system Haley (acceleration on the first two rounds).

The referee shall be assisted by the Paper 3.3.8 matching programme

Any error of result will be taken into account and corrected for the matching of the next round if it is clearly indicated and justified with the main referee, no later than 30 minutes after the end of the previous round, otherwise, it will be taken into account at the end of the tournament and only for the calculations of the Elo ranking of the players.
Unranked FIDE players will be awarded an Elo estimated by the main referee.

Unrated Fide Standard players will be awarded an estimated Elo ranking, close to their eventual Elo Fide Rapide, if they have one.


ARTICLE 6 : Ranking and Price

Classification is carried out at points of games; winning part 1 pt; null part 1⁄2 pt; lost part 0.

In the event of a tie, players are separated according to the following systems, in the order indicated:

The Trunqué Buchholz: (sum of the scores of the opponents removed from the two worst scores)

The Buchholz: (sum of the score of the opponents)

Performance

For the calculation of the Buchholz in the context of unplayed games, in accordance with Article C07-16.6, the calculation of the adjusted score is carried out by the PAPI software version 3.3.8 according to the recommendations of the FIDE prior to 2023.

The prices are as follows: 1st : 1000 €* – 2nd : 700 €* – 3rd : 400 €*

The final price list will be displayed before the start of Round 3.

  • General price amounts are guaranteed if at least 100 participants are registered. The organizer reserves the right to reduce the amount of these prices if the number of registered is less than 100.
  • Prices by categories, prices per Elo tranche and female price include at least five players and/or players

The prizes in the general classification are awarded to the Hort system, all other prizes are awarded in the real place.

Prices are not cumulative

The organiser is the sole judge of the terms of awarding the prizes.

The prizes are awarded to the winners present at the closing ceremony only.


ARTICLE 7 : Arbitration

Chief Referee: Philippe Blot, International Referee.

Deputy Referee: Mr. Richard Van Maele, AFO.


ARTICLE 8 : Player Behavior

Analyses or blitzes are not allowed in the tournament room, an analysis room is available to players.

Discussions between players can hinder some participants and in addition, can be misinterpreted. Players are asked to take this into account by courtesy and sportiness.

Players are prohibited from discussing their ongoing game with anyone.

Players are prohibited from making use of notes, sources of information or advice, or analyzing any part on another chessboard.

A player is prohibited from having any electronic device (phone, tablet, smartwatch, etc.) not specifically authorized by the referee in the gambling hall.

However, the rules of competition allow such devices to be left in a player’s bag, provided that they are completely turned off. This bag must be stored in accordance with the guidelines of the arbitrator. A player is prohibited from carrying a bag containing such a device without the permission of the referee. If it is obvious that a player carries such a device on him in the game room, he will lose the game. The opponent will be declared the winner.

Any act contrary to the ethics of the game will be recorded in the technical report, possibly with the request for sanction with the FFE Disciplinary Committee.

It is brought to the attention of the participants that the parties may be the subject of a complaint on suspicion of cheating during the tournament or after the tournament, and of a further possible investigation.

The consumption of alcoholic beverages is totally prohibited within the city centre.


ARTICLE 9 : Litigation

Only the arbitrator remains competent to settle any dispute. In case of disagreement with a decision of the referee, any player may refer the matter to the Appeal Board, before taking over the game that he will have to finish. The applicant player will then have to write a written request for a call that will be attached to the tournament technical report. The appeal will be submitted to the jury as soon as possible at the end of the round concerned.

The Appeal Board shall consist, before the first round, of five designated members from a defined list of seven persons. The decisions of the Appeal Board are sovereign.

The decisions of the Appeal Board are immediately applied, but can nevertheless be challenged before the FFE Sports Appeals Committee.

In these regulations, the terms “players”; “participants”; “they” (when this article refers to natural persons) must be understood both male and female and concern women and men.

DELIA OF PACKAGE

The package is 30 minutes, unless the referee decides otherwise.

Only one Bye is possible during rounds 1 to 6
